This unique ceramic triptych sculpture was made by Dutch ceramist Lies Cosijn in 1997. The triptych is hand-painted and shows us three different scenes. The largest part in the middle, displays a number of figures surrounding a mother figure with a young child, reminiscent of Mary with Christ. The left and right panel of the triptych show us very different scenes: figures spending time in what seems to be a brothel. With this triptych, Lies Cosijn combines religious connotations with scenes of ordinary life in a playful way. Lies Cosijn (1931-2016) was a Dutch ceramist. Her work can be described as fairy tale like an poetic on the one hand, but sometimes also quite realistic or even bizarre and provocative.
