This red glazed porcelain bowl is made by Geert Lap in 1982. The bowl has sharp white rims and is signed with "Lap" on the bottom. This bowl was made in his own studio. Geert Lap (1951-2017) was a Dutch ceramist, known for his minimalist approach to ceramics. The work of Lap is characterized by its seeming simplicity and perfect craftsmanship. His ceramics have a timeless quality. With each piece he created, Lap tried to come closer to the essence of the thrown form. A similar vase by Geert Lap is depicted in the exhibition catalogue Mieke G. Spruit-Ledeboer and Maarten van Thiel, 'The Contemporary Utility Ceramics in the Netherlands and its Development in the 20th Century', 1981 (see pictures).
