This outstanding sculptural porcelain piece entitled "Expanding Space" (1998, one-off), was made in memory of Benno Premsela, one of the leading figures in 20th century Dutch design, and an active member of the gay and lesbian society who actively and publicly campaigned for emancipation and tolerance. Dutch ceramicist Babs Haenen who recalls her close friendship with Premsela, made this special memorial. Blue and white refer to the Netherlands and to water, pink to Premsela's favorite color and the design makes reference to fabrics by Premsela. The object is signed. It has been exhibited in Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam at the Exhibition 'Babs Haenen. The Turbulent Vessel. Ceramics 1991-1998'. Babs Haenen (Amsterdam 1948) is an important Dutch, often classified as expressionist, ceramicist. Museums worldwide have purchased work from her.
