This unique glass bowl is one of the first pieces Zynsky made with her distinctive 'filet-de-verre' technique. The bowl is made by layering thousands of multicolored glass threads onto a round heat-resistant fiberboard plate. For Zynsky, this part of the process resembles drawing or painting. The mass of glass threads is then fused inside a kiln. While hot, the fused thread disk is allowed to slowly slump into preheated bowl-shaped metal forms. Finally, Zynsky, wearing heat-resistant gloves, squeezes the glass into a unique undulating form.
