Wishbone or Y Chair, model CH24, designed by Hans Wegner in 1949 and first produced by Carl Hansen & Søn the following year. With roots in traditional Chinese design, the lightweight oak frame has a Y-shaped back, semicircular top rail and papercord seat. Hans Jørgen Wegner (1914-2007) was one of the most inventive Danish furniture designers. His beautifully designed chairs show decent craftmanship and a minimalist design, inspired by Shaker furniture. Especially through the work of Wegner, Danish design became well-known in the 1950s.
