Beautiful original Dutch Art Nouveau Mahogany armchair with carved and inlay work designed by Hendrik Petrus Berlage in around 1905. This sturdy chair is entirely designed in the traditional traditions of medieval furniture makers. The chair has been carefully decorated with inserted figures and inlays, depicting a pair of griffins, executed by sculptor Marinus Johannes Hack. Characteristic of this chair is the construction principle of Berlage's armchairs, namely a backwards placed back. The upholstery is original and is worn on the armrests.
