Chris Lanooy, Earthenware bowl with blue glaze, 1913. Signed 'CJLanooy, 1913'. From 1908 till circa 1913 Lanooy worked at the Wachtelstraat 220 in Gouda. He lived and worked here. He also had four ovens here; one oven could even be heated up to 1600 degrees Celsius. In 1911 Lanooy was represented at a retrospective exhibition of the Gouda pottery in the society 'Ons Genoegen'. In the years 1911-1913 Lanooy made a number of animal sculptures in collaboration with the sculptor Jan Altorf (1876-1955) from The Hague. Possibly they already knew each other from Haga in Purmerend, where they were both designers. Moreover, they were both in contact with the art pedagogue and patron H.P. Bremmer (1871-1956).
