Koen Vanderstukken

Belgium 1964

Koen Vanderstukken is an artist, professor, and author with over 35 years of experience. In his work, Koen consistently explores the intrinsic differences between personal perception and reality, constantly examining the duality between reality and appearance. Koen's work, therefore, does not aim to provide answers. It is unpretentious and encourages us to question the appearance or reality of rationality and emotions. It makes us pause and draws our attention to the ever-increasing complexity of our human existence, but even more so, the enormous depth and richness hidden within.

Koen is a renowned sculptor and teacher. His work has been exhibited in major centers worldwide, from Amsterdam, Paris, Prague, and Venice to New York, Chicago, and Montreal. From 1990 to 2006, he ran his own studio in Niel, Belgium. His glass art can be found in numerous museum and private collections, as well as in important public commissions. Koen has given workshops and masterclasses in Europe and North America and also taught for 10 years at the Institute for Arts and Crafts in Mechelen.

Since 2006, Koen Vanderstukken has been a professor and studio head of the glass department at Sheridan College in Oakville, Canada. The Sheridan glass studio has an international reputation for producing artists with exceptional creativity, a keen eye for design, and technical skill. Koen Vanderstukken is also the author of the book "Glass Virtual Real".

?Published by Black Dog Publishing in London. He also works as a series consultant and helped build the largest glassblowing studio in North America for the Netflix series 'Blown Away'.

"Only when you consider glass as the material component of an immateriality, you will be able to fundamentally overcome the functionality and mystery of the material." – Koen
