Closing weekend: 50x Eugène Brands - From figuration to abstraction

Inspired by the exhibition 'Eugène Brands: between studio and universe' in the CoBrA Museum, we are organising a sales exhibition with works by Eugène Brands. During six weeks two exhibitions about this experimental artist will take place at the same in Amstelveen.

The sales exhibition, in cooperation with the Haarlem-based art dealer E.J. Wisselingh & Co, will be held in the showroom of Kunstconsult. It includes 50 works by Eugène Brands (1913-2002). Paintings and other art works from almost all periods in his oeuvre will be on show and for sale. The collection includes the lyrical abstract style from his CoBrA period, his childlike figuration from the 1950s and his later abstract work on themes such as mystery and cosmos.

Eugène Brands was the initiator of the first and illustrious CoBrA exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1949. Shortly after this exhibition he left CoBrA, because he felt more fit to work on his own rather than in a group. The exhibition in the CoBrA Museum is the first major retrospective of Eugène Brands.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on thursday April 12 at 8PM with Eugène Brands-expert prof. dr. Ruud Lapré.
