Pieter Den Besten, Mosaic for Van Nelle Koffie, 1963

A beautiful mosaic by artist Pieter dan Besten. It shows a semi-abstract illustration of a cup of coffee and coffee-pot. It is signed 'Pieter van Besten 1963'. Pieter den Besten was a Dutch sculptor, draughtsman, painter and graphic designer. Van Nelle was a manufacturer from Rotterdam of Fine-cut tobacco, cigarettes, coffee and tea, who also worked together with many different well known artist. In addition to this mosaic for the Van Nelle Coffee, Den Besten also made works for Tuschinski in Amsterdam, the Grand Theater Pompenburg in Rotterdam, café Central in Gouda and the Nieuw Amsterdam from the Holland-America line.
