This cloisonné panel shows a colorful representation of three fishes. Calm rippling lines in blue and sea green suggest water in the background. A special feature is the original wooden frame with fish, carefully crafted and in keeping with the image in cloisonné. Marie Kuyken made the design and in the workshop of her father Wilhelm Kuyken jr. in Haarlem craftsmen hammered copper or silver strips into cells, or "cloisons", in a wooden panel, which were filled with mixtures of plaster and gelatin in all kinds of colors. A design drawing has been preserved in the company archive of Firma Kuyken (now managed by Marie's second cousin, Thierry Kuyken; see last photo). In addition, an order book in this archive contains a mention of "Vissen met titel (Rhytme)" ("Fish with title (Rhytm)") under number 17, the same number as on the back of this panel. The order book states that this panel was completed on 2 August 1918 and was sold that same day to "Reeder / lid. firma Vischerman and Co, Amsterdam" for 165 guilders, a considerable amount at that time. On the back of the panel is written: "Design 17, Fond black, Cut frame 6 1/2 cm". There is also a patent application with no. 9484 and 17.
