Beautiful ceramic wall plate made by Hans de Jong in 1981. This work is inspired by and named after the Beemster, a place where De Jong worked and lived at that time. The polder landscape of the Beemster is characterized by squares: fields are crossed by straight roads and ditches. Referring to this landscape, De Jong applied blocks and lanes in subtle and transparent colours in this work. If you have ever seen the characteristic landscape of the Beemster, you will recognize it in this wall plate.
