Pierre Paulin

France 1927 - 2009

French designer Pierre Paulin (1927, Paris) was well-known in the Netherlands for his designs for Artifort. He worked for this Dutch furniture manufacturer from 1958, where many of his designs were realized. Characteristic of Paulin's designs is the combination of foam rubber and a light metal frame with stretch material. This created organic shaped furniture that at the same time looked modern and stylistic. In his designs he puts comfort over form. His early designs from the 1950s are mainly influenced by Scandinavian modernism. His most famous designs date from the 60s and 70s, recognizable by their playful and colourful appearance.
