Italian designer Joe Colombo (1930-1971) produced a great variety of designs during his career. In his early years he was an abstract expressionist painter, but from 1958 he focused on design. He designed many futuristic interiors in which he searched for functionality. With his own design agency, which he founded in 1962, he focused on architectural designs and interiors, especially for hotels. In addition, he designed many innovative pieces of furniture, lighting, alarm clocks and glassware. Industrial designs such as household appliances also belong to his oeuvre.
